Nature's Narrative

Telling the story of our planet

One and only entity that governs the whole universe is Nature. Some have personified Nature as Almighty who is omnipotent and omnipresent. I endearingly prefer to call Mother Nature who is caring and benevolent. She takes care of and nourishes us all.

As a member of the great family, we must respect and care for every element of Mother Nature. Felling trees causes habitat destruction, ultimately leading to a big and irrevocable destruction. It needs to be managed scientifically to keep a harmonious equilibrium.

Here comes the LiFE, which is Lifestyle for Environment.

I endeavour to create impactful, quality writing pieces to instigate the thought process. It is how I want to contribute my bit to the social and environmental cause.

Come, embark on the journey with me. You will enjoy it, I am sure.

Without it, it is impossible to imagine the existence of life on Earth.

Child Hanuman swallowed the sun

In the Sanatan tradition, people believe that child Hanuman Ji once swallowed the sun. He thought it was a ripe fruit. Devoid of sun, the Earth plunged into deep darkness, and life came to a grinding halt. Demigods congregate and pray to Hanuman Ji. They ask him to release the sun for the welfare of the Earth and its inhabitants. Considering the prayers, Lord Hanuman released the sun. Thus, bringing life back to normal.

This short story tells a lot about the importance of the sun. It is noteworthy that only a small amount of solar energy that reaches the Earth is used for all life. Most of it is reflected back into the atmosphere. A significant amount is absorbed by water and clouds. It goes on to tell the size of radiation that the sun releases.

The Sun is Important

(a) The sun is worshipped

Apart from its importance and vitality, the sun has aesthetic power as well. While rising up in the morning or setting down the horizon in the evening, it presents a spectacular sight. The beauty of the sun is beyond description. It is because of its important role and vitality that people worship it as a god.

(b) Morning Sun

In the morning, the sun rises gradually in the sky. It is personified as a blazing and beautiful being. This being travels from east to west, riding on his divine chariot driven by seven steeds.

As it rises up in the sky, it presents various hues and a spectacular sight which looks mesmerising. The crimson heliacal ball gracefully rises up and invigorates each organism. The phenomenon that creates stunning skyscapes is the scattering of light. For the majority of faiths, the sun is more than a star because of its tremendous energy, which is eternal.

(c) The sunset

Sunset and a tranquil evening are celestial occurrences. The setting sun looks more beautiful. It gives a feeling of a living organism which, after the day’s hectic work, is going to take rest. The glow and aura look lovingly mellowed down to a tangerine ball. It evokes a sense of hope. The setting sun seems to convey that everyone who has come has to go. It is the hope that acts as a driving force, a source of inspiration. The force that propels an individual to move and achieve. It keeps the flame ablaze. Sunset is not only an occurrence but a lesson too, with a clear message.

Beautiful evening

Moments after the sun goes down, a silky soft crepuscule sets in. The sky is seen evenly lit with a soft, soothing feeling of composure in the diffused but vibrant light. The sunset and tranquil evening are the time for rest. Birds start coming back to their nest and start a collective commotion. Their collective chirping “emotes” a rustic scene where groups of birds come to take rest in their carefully engineered nests. They “emote” because city life has decreased the roosting sites for birds significantly. The increasing pigeonhole-like dwellings have made nest-making an impossible task.

Gradually, silky soft darkness starts spreading its wings. In cities, houses start lighting up. Electricity has made life easy. Life was different six decades ago. Houses and streets were lit with kerosene lamps. Today, homes have electricity that illuminates dwellings and streets brightly at the flick of a switch.

Nightlife

In modern society, the concept of “nightlife” is fast making way. It is becoming an essential part of life. The efforts to fill the void created by increasing isolation in society are clearly seen. Mushrooming nightclubs are getting prominence and a status symbol. The much-needed emotional support is lacking in these nightclubs where people used to come, dance, and enjoy. It has everything but the warmth of bonding. After crushing, hectic work hours, such places offer relaxation at a premium. Everything comes with a price, and it can’t be an exception.

Some people don’t find pleasure in crowded places. For people of this category, a fancy nomenclature is given. They are tagged as “enochlophobic”. Terming anyone with a “phobic” suffix categorises the person as ailing with a mental condition, but does it so? Not necessarily always. It can be a choice but not always a problem until it is physically expressed by some odd appearing “symptoms”.

Time for relaxation

After the sunset and tranquil evening, the day ends. He wants to relax after a hectic day. There is no better place than his cosy bed illuminated with diffused, subdued light. The refreshing shower relaxes his muscular system and enhances his mood. He avoids any discussion or arguments but tries to stay calm and composed. It’s like a meditation for him. Some will call him selfish, but he is not. He simply wants to be with himself. This allows him to focus on the positive aspects of life. It also helps him think about ways to come out of the convolutions of routine. It may seem like a luxury for many of us. Yet, dispassionate thinking would reveal that it is not so hard to achieve. A slight change in perspective and way of thinking is the portal of bliss.

(b) Evening tea

He usually prefers to take evening tea sitting with his spouse among the green, shady trees along the balcony. Both sip their tea silently, looking around the verdurous ambience and exchanging thoughts intermittently. They share their whole day’s experiences and also exchange their views on domestic affairs. Children are happily settled elsewhere, and the couples live alone. The couple keep in touch with their offspring by phone or video call.

Time is changing

The lovely grandchildren are growing up. They have started going to school. It is not like he used to attend in his childhood days. Time has considerably changed since then. The children used to go outside their home. They call this “day-care.” Here, they interact with children of their age and learn new things. This is like a launching pad for them, which prepares them for their regular school.

Night: Time to rest

After the sunset and tranquil evening, the crepuscule has now become night. The couple spends some time together. They have a few sporadic verbal tiffs. Then, they buzz off for the rest of the work. He opens his laptop and starts typing. Writing has an easing effect which helps him to pour out his heart. Reading and writing are his favourite activities besides spending time in the closeness of Nature and photography. He wishes to polish and improve his skills. He adheres to a strict writing routine. Still, he does not fix a special time for it. He writes as and when thoughts start pouring in, and seldom has a plan for the evening. He does not lead life with the imposed burden of showing like a “sophisticated” individual. His life is simple and frugal.
