Monsoon, in all its romanticism, was active. Filled with rainwater, ponds and ditches became hotspots of life. It was a coprophagous scarabaeus. These Coleopterans are recyclers of Nature. It used to roll balls of animal excreta to its hiding place to lay eggs. These tiny beetles often found in rustic settings. They uphold soil health and help maintaining nutrient cycle alive. He kept staring at the beetle while it was lugging its catch of a large dung ball.
Small and beautiful
As he watched, another fairly small beetle flew over and landed on a wildflower nearby. It was a bright, Orange coloured insect with black pustules on it. The colourful tiny beetle started scampering on the leaves and flowers of the plant. It looked beautiful. Grinning with pleasure, he scanned the area with his eyes to find many such occurrences which amused him.
Soliloquy
“What a colourful and dynamic world is this!” He murmured as if talking to himself. “It amuses me with its varieties, colour and activities.”Talking to none but an unseen force, he continued, “Nature is so diverse. It has myriad shapes, sizes, colours, and activities.” Yet, all are in harmony.” He started walking in the orchard, thinking and soliloquising, “Every natural element, is interdependent. They sustain each other and grow.” Taking a pause and a few steps, he muttered with a long exhale, “It is amazing”.

With a background in bioscience, he understood the intricacies of life. The study helps him to comprehend the processes of life and the behaviour of animals and plants. He enjoys observing Nature’s drama and its various aspects. The raindrops were still resting on the edges of leaves. They look like small glittering transparent beads laced on the edges. Reflecting sun rays giving them a pavonine glitter.
Flock of herons
A little far away, flocks of herons were flying gracefully. They landed on the bank of the pond and tried to catch their prey. These carnivorous birds feed on fish, frogs, snails, and similar prey. Their aciform beak is aptly suitable to catch their prey. Organisms are dependent upon each other for food and energy. They effectively control the population and keep it balanced. It is regaling to watch them standing still in the water and snapping their prey in a fraction of time. The enchanting beauty of Nature gives a feeling of divine presence.
Busy caterpillar
As he moved ahead, yet another pantomime attracted his attention. An apple green caterpillar was busy devouring leaves. He stumbled and watched the caterpillar. It reminded him of the conversation between a caterpillar and a small child Alice of “Alice in Wonderland”. As he was watching the caterpillar, an unintentional insignificant jerk in the twig disturbed it. Instantly folding its thoracic region to show two black spots insinuating wide eyes. The caterpillar was in a self-defence mode to ward off potential danger.
Organisms are like a factory
Each organism is a factory in itself. They draw energy from the food they take and carry out various functions. Like a big factory, an organism too has different, distinct systems which work in collaboration with each other. There is a non-overlapping, clear distribution of functions among systems. Their work is though different, but they work in tandem in perfect harmony.
Body systems
Merged together, various systems form a body. In higher animals with heavy and muscular bodies, a framework of bones internally supports the body. In plants, especially big trees, the weight is supported by the specially arranged tissues. These tissues are termed mechanical tissues. This arrangement gives a particular shape, size and utility to an organism. These systems adroitly carry out the specific task. These systems include the digestive system, excretory system, circulatory system, nervous system, muscular system, et cetera.
Digestive system
The digestive system, for instance, digests the food. It breaks it into minute fractions made available for absorption. The absorbed food breaks down further to release energy in the presence of oxygen. The body utilises energy in activities. The respiratory system, yet another system ensures the availability of oxygen to every part of the body.

The universe is moving in a coordinated manner. Earth is the only planet in the known universe that sustains life in various forms. Human understanding still has a long way to go. It is the “mercy” of an unknown and unseen force that lets us know only what it wants to. Many things are still speculation. They give rise to the illusory concepts of rebirth, occult practices and the existence of God. Philosophers and religious preachers have their own views, and often they contradict each other. Nevertheless, they converge on a point of the existence of a force.

The absolute knowledge, though, is a utopian idea in shifting situations.
