What could you do differently?
The post discusses the importance of perception in viewing situations, illustrated by the metaphor of a half-filled glass. It emphasizes the need for perspective shifts in learning and work, contrasts negativity with positivity, and highlights human potential for innovation. The nuances of individual abilities also contribute to achieving success and creativity.
A common phrase that is often used to express the feeling of positivity and negativity in a person is a half-filled glass of water. Considered as a parameter of knowing about the thinking of people the phrase aptly and successfully tells about the dimension a person looks at. Some perceive it as half-filled, while others see it as half-empty. The fact is the same, but the way one depicts it is the bent of his mind and perception. In both cases, the fact that remains constant is the amount of water in the glass. It hardly matters to the glass, or the water contained inside. Materialistically, the amount of water is the same in both conditions, but the perception of the mind is different, which gives it a different opinion about a thing.
Those who perceive it as half-empty see things from a negative perspective. Half-empty indicates that one is not mentally prepared to accept the challenges and grab the opportunity to gain from the remaining water. This is also a strong viewpoint that makes the usual, an unusual.
Humans work for their livelihood. Every individual goes to the workplace, performs their duty and does the assigned work. Some of us draw pleasure in our work, while some consider it a burden that they are ordained to lug and drag. People of the latter category are prone to mistakes and ludicrous performance, leading to messy and untidy work, not up to the mark.
The angle of vision or perception is the key to making the change and putting it in a different perspective. A teacher, for example, while teaching his disciples about the surface tension of water, tells them about its definition and puts it dryly before them. The students, in such cases, are often unable to grasp the central point and fail to understand the concept
Another teacher, on the other hand, made his topic interesting by adding a practical experience showing magic to his students. The students were amused and easily understood the principle, not to forget it forever. The teacher put a sieve at the mouth of a glass containing water and inverted it. The children were amused to watch that the water did not fall. After demonstrating the “magic” to the children, the teacher explained how it worked, focusing on the principle of surface tension. He taught the same principle but with a difference.
People put a counterargument, too. They plead that whatever is seen happening has been happening since olden times. There is nothing new in it. Based on it they put forth their logic of status quo. Some phenomena have been happening since Aeon. Earth, for instance, is revolving the sun from time immortal. There is no other way the earth can move. This is the cause of seasons and weather, day and night.
It is the absolute accuracy of the celestial movement. This and various others of likes are examples of absolute role. The absolute accuracy seen in planetary movement is not possible in everyday life of the mundane world.
Often, though, deviation is also seen in the natural world. It has been explained by scientists as because of accidental genetic change. In scientific parlance, it is known as mutation. It is a type of experimentation taken by nature which gives rise to diversified life forms.
A student preparing for his examination is tested in the way he presents his answers. Mathematical calculations and scientific theories apart, the subjective answers are mainly perception-based. The student is also not doing anything different. He is being examined on the topic he was expected to learn and what his teacher has taught him. It is routine work but can be done with a difference.
What is the difference, one can ask? The way examinations used to be conducted has now seen a paradigm shift. The whole process has been computerised making it flawless, easy and quick. This has another dimension to the whole process. Advent of AI (Artificial Intelligence) has added yet another dimension to the human knowledge and opened a new vista for growth.
The work of a craftsperson during his first start used to be rough, disproportionate and not up to the mark. It is human. The precision and refinement comes with imagination, will to do something new and innovative ideas. Innovation is, in a sense, not new but it is different from a human perspective.
Is the gravitational pull of the earth a new thing? This property of earth or other celestial bodies must have been inherent since their beginning. Newton, though, realized it after a long time. He tested his observation of a falling apple’s perception on the touchstone of logic and propounded his law of gravitation. His principles are the foundation of many scientific explorations. Things are already there. They need to be discovered or deciphered. The moment it is done, a so-called new thing, which is new for the human race, surfaces. It is the tendency to do things differently which has given valuable knowledge about things and the technology to use that knowledge for the welfare of humanity.

Now, addressing this issue at an individual level raises concerns, as it heavily relies on a person’s skills and abilities. As the renowned scientist Albert Einstein once said, we can’t expect someone to achieve something they are not capable of. For example, we shouldn’t expect a fish to climb a tree, just as humans can’t live underwater without assistance, like fish do. Nature has evolved each organism to thrive in its specific habitat.
Humans are a race endowed with diversified capabilities. With his highly developed brain and skill, humans can do wonders, and they are doing it; constantly pushing their boundaries and setting new heights. After conquering the highest and one of the most treacherous peaks, Mt. Everest, humans have dived deep into the sea and scaled new horizons in space and beyond. Given proper opportunities and facilities, human beings can make possible the impossible.
Individually, the nuances of a person decide about the methodical and smart way of doing anything. Some are expert photographers, while others are expert and vibrant painters. They can create wonders with the stroke of their brushes or use light as a medium to draw pictures on the sensors of a camera.
Writing is one such medium. With the help of words, a writer can create power or punch. This is why writing has been considered a powerful tool. Writing gives pleasure and eases out an individual by letting him vent out emotions. Like other art forms, it needs practice and dedication. Using them one can excel in writing and develop writing prowess.
