Nature's Narrative

Telling the story of our planet

One and only entity that governs the whole universe is Nature. Some have personified Nature as Almighty who is omnipotent and omnipresent. I endearingly prefer to call Mother Nature who is caring and benevolent. She takes care of and nourishes us all.

As a member of the great family, we must respect and care for every element of Mother Nature. Felling trees causes habitat destruction, ultimately leading to a big and irrevocable destruction. It needs to be managed scientifically to keep a harmonious equilibrium.

Here comes the LiFE, which is Lifestyle for Environment.

I endeavour to create impactful, quality writing pieces to instigate the thought process. It is how I want to contribute my bit to the social and environmental cause.

Come, embark on the journey with me. You will enjoy it, I am sure.

  • Sincere tourism emphasizes deep exploration and learning, rather than superficial experiences or luxury accommodations.
  • Proper preparation enhances enjoyment; travelers should prioritize value over luxury for a more fulfilling experience.

Touring

Before starting to discuss ways of budget travel, it would be proper to talk about tourism. It is an activity which involves travelling to some other destination away from usual place of residence and staying there for twenty four hours or an overnight stay. The stay should not be more than one consecutive year. Touring is different and depends upon the purpose of travel. It may be:

  • Business travel – which is taken up for work or business purposes.
  • Medical travel – it is taken up to get medical treatment for a specific disease not available in the town of domicile or residence.
  • Ecotourism – it is taken up to explore various eco sites like national parks, sanctuaries or nature trails. Hiking, trekking et cetera falls under this head
  • Leisure and cultural – it pertains to visiting various places of cultural and heritage importance, exploring new places, historical monuments and the cuisines of the place.
  • Religious tourism – it is all about visiting places, temples and places of worship for religious and spiritual purposes. Tourists in this category do not bother to explore other things except for religious places.

Business travel

The tourists of the first category primarily conduct business. Meetings, conferences, MOUs and agreements are their primary concern. They usually do not visit places of other importance, but if they do, their visit is cursory and brief. It is this category that pays for luxurious stays in star hotels, enjoying sumptuous food in hotel restaurants, and using facilities of spa and swimming pool, massage and grooming. They travel in executive class on expensive airlines and take costly cars to ferry in the city of their business. Their class is different from others.

Medical travel

The second category primarily comprises serious patients. Their aim is not enjoyment but the treatment of their patients. Most of them live in cheap hotels, Dharamshalas, and places like Gurudwara or, if possible, in religious places. The attendants accompanying the patients are usually not in mental condition to explore the city or do any leisure activities. They are financially hard pressed and confined to the attendance of their patients.

There are a group of people who take wellness tours to natural, verdant and calm places to take up naturopathy and detoxing activities in a serene and salubrious environment. They follow the routine of the place they visit for yoga and naturopathy and live in that area. Mostly, they don’t visit to explore the city or places.

Religious tourism

Similarly, a religious tourist has a focused approach. They visit places of worship for pilgrimage purpose. They visit places but with different perspective. Their aim and goal is not exploration but a total surrender to the Almighty force. They stay in budget hotels, eat frugal food and barely visit any other site except that of the place they have in mind.

A devotee, for example, who has planned to have a “Darshan” of the Amarnath cave, does not bother to enjoy the natural beauty of the Himalayas. Braving the odds, they go to the cave, bow to their revered deity, Lord Shiva, in the form of a big ice Shiva Lingam, and return. Fulfilling their aim is more than sufficient for them, which gives them immense satisfaction and joy.

In the same manner, a devotee who goes to Vaishno Debi doesn’t mind if they are not enjoying the natural beauty. They find enjoyment in their devotion and natural beauty as a bonus.

Ecotourism

An ecotourist go for venturing deep in forests, national parks and sanctuaries and places of similar importance. They prefer to stay at rest houses or Dakbunglow and eat simple food available there.

A few enthusiasts prefer to take a trek or go hiking for a fairly long excursion to hill area where they explore Nature and natural beauty in its wild form. They enjoy the company of a plethora of flowers, snow-capped mountains, singing falls and intermittent bird chirping. They usually carry camping gear and pitch their tents in a green valley amidst fragrant flowers. Carrying their food with them or use basic cooking methods to cook food. Their primary aim is to enjoy the company of nature and gazing dark star studded sky in the night.

Leisure and cultural tourist

The category of leisure and cultural tourists is the most touted category. People in this category try to boast about their travel as their hobby and flaunt it as an achievement. Mostly belonging to a moderate background with a typical stereotypical mindset, they do go to places, but just to add numbers to their list of places. Their visit is cursory; they don’t explore the intricate aspects of culture, tradition, architecture and food of the location they are in. Their basic focus is mostly on an expensive stay and enjoying nightlife. Tourists of this category generally don’t mind paying extra for the show and strictly avoid any inconvenience. Later, they flaunt their trip by posting pictures of their stay on social media platforms.

Sincere tourism

It is a group of tourists who sincerely observe things, monuments and scenic views and try to understand and appreciate the beauty and skill of the artisans who created the marvel. They are serious tourists in the sense that they not only want to enjoy the historical monuments and ancient edifices but also want to explore them more deeply. For them, tourism is a means of enriching their experience, knowledge and understanding of the place. Tourists of this type try not to focus on gaudy hotel stays and expensive transport. Their focus is on visiting places, watching and feeling the time of yore and drenching themselves in the aura of the place.

Touring is important

Touring is an important part of life. People travel for various purposes, majority of them travel to socialise and participating in marriage ceremony. This type of touring generally doesn’t involve sightseeing or venturing out of the venue. Leaving other subsidiary things aside, better to focus on budget touring.

Budget touring

Budget touring does not focus on luxury. Instead it centered on experiencing local culture, cuisines, etiquette, language, mode of living and the heritage. Those who want to have maximum enjoyment in their tour with minimum expenditure a few points should be kept in consideration. (The Points Guy)

Points in brief

  1. Chalk out budget – It is most important. Knowing it solves several problems and help in planning a trip. A moderate budget is sufficient.
  2. Stay should be decent but not expensive. The moderate hotel accommodation are easily available. Care should be taken while choosing a right accommodation in hotel. Hotel facilities often remain unutilised. Until necessary, expensive hotels should be avoided. Splurging money for a night or two might not be wise. The saved money can be used in purchasing souvenir or some other items.
  3. The place of stay should preferably close to the tourist site and near river in holy cities. Like staying in Haridwar would be more rewarding in a hotel near to river Ganga. Visitor can enjoy watching river while sipping tea or coffee sitting in the room or balcony. Nearness to the site saves time and money on transportation.
  4. Try avoiding peak season. It would not be wise to choose crowded season. The exorbitant and unreasonable charges of everything including accommodation and transportation is unduly taxing. Apart from it, the crowd becomes noisy and haphazard especially on hill stations. It causes undue traffic jam which kills time and enjoyment.
  5. Proper preparation before starting is essential. If travelling with self driven car a few cautions made the journey enjoyable and memorable. A workshop checking of the car is desirable. Tyre pressure, engine oil, coolant and break fluid et cetera should be properly checked. A small box containing medicines for headache, giddiness, nausea and vomiting plus a tube of antseptic cream are helpful.

Additional important points

  1. As a budget touring focuses on value over luxury, a traveller should stick to it and prefer less costly accommodation over expensive luxury one. Similarly, modest restaurant will suffice the food need.
  2. The thrust should be on more exploration with less. Using public transport is a viable option. This gives the traveller a feel of local and help understanding the place and its culture.
  3. Tasting local food at small kiosks and local eateries are also good consideration. The eating joints should be chosen carefully. Budget doesn’t mean compromising with hygiene. A tempting food is not always good. If need be, take fresh fruits.
  4. If taking a flight, a night flight prove beneficial, as it significantly cuts ticket rates. Off-season booking will also help reduce the cost of travel and stay.

Plan well and enjoy

Travelling and visiting places is enjoyable. A few care can give a traveller some extra milage. With a proper and careful planning, the cost can be lowered, and enjoyment can be more than double.
