Nature's Narrative

Telling the story of our planet

One and only entity that governs the whole universe is Nature. Some have personified Nature as Almighty who is omnipotent and omnipresent. I endearingly prefer to call Mother Nature who is caring and benevolent. She takes care of and nourishes us all.

As a member of the great family, we must respect and care for every element of Mother Nature. Felling trees causes habitat destruction, ultimately leading to a big and irrevocable destruction. It needs to be managed scientifically to keep a harmonious equilibrium.

Here comes the LiFE, which is Lifestyle for Environment.

I endeavour to create impactful, quality writing pieces to instigate the thought process. It is how I want to contribute my bit to the social and environmental cause.

Come, embark on the journey with me. You will enjoy it, I am sure.

Sparrows on the work

Sparrows were chirping and hopping from branch to branch, occasionally perching on the terrace wall. They swiftly cast a glance here and there. The hen sparrow was holding a hay twig in its small but stout beak. They were making a nest.

(1) Divided work

Their agility and focused action were adorable. They had divided their work. After spotting a piece of hay, one of them would pick it up in its beak. Then it would go to the place where they were making their nest. They were doing it turn-by-turn. Sometimes, becoming angry when finding the work was not in order.

(2) Nest building

The bird duo were making their nest in a basket, hanging in a corner beneath the shade. The basket was not in use. It was empty except for an old, worn-out bedsheet, which acted as a cushion for the nest. He was happy to see it, as this would allow him to watch eggs hatching and chicks emerging.

(3) Nice, little and cosy

Observing the birds working was charming. The hen sparrow would stay in the basket, while the spatzie would go out to work. One morning, both birds were away, leaving their nest unguarded. Tip-toeing, he cautiously peeped in the basket. The birds had made their nest comfortable. It resembled a shallow bowl primarily made up of hay, cushioned by feathers and other soft materials. Three tiny spotted eggs were there in the nest.

(4) Birds’ family started

The birds would keep their intercourse to and from the nest to collect food. A few days later, a mild but distinct chirping emerged from the basket. Eggs hatched. The birds’ family had started in their “home”.

Home

Home! The word resonates and gives a feeling of a cosy and comforting place where an organism finds solace. It allows the occupants to rest, provides protection, safety and comfort. The birds also had their cosy corner, warm and cushioned, where they can rear their chicks.

(1) A house is a necessity

Like other organisms, humans have to have a place of dwelling. Since the dawn of civilisation, humans made their houses with bricks. The Indus Valley people had intricate and meticulous house layouts. Housing is not a mere wish, it is a necessity. People wish to have a permanent place of their own. Most people do not have their house because of financial crunch. They live in rented accomodation and have to change it often. Soaring prices and limited income made the house out of reach of ordibary people. It is positive that in the changed scenario, easy loan options are accessible. This makes house owning less complicated and within easy reach.

The Story

It is the story of a person who started with nothing but ultimately got an opportunity to own a house. For convenience, we will call the man Vishwanath. It is the story of Vishwanath’s journey to his dream home.

(1) Start from nothing

A timid person, he began his life barehanded. It was the time when he had completed two and a half decades after his birth. He was no longer a jobless and wasted man. Wading through financial scarcity, he continued his journey. He worked hard to gain ground and make a credible reputation. Gradually, he started catching ground.

(2) Nature lover

Vishwanath’s journey to his dream home travels through the meandering alleys of difficulties and scarcities. He loved nature and dreamed of having a small house nestled in the lush green mountains. Drawn to the serene calmness of the hills and enjoyed listening to the gentle ripples of the river. The harmonious symphony of birds and insects captivated him. It was, though, his dream, different from stark reality.

Daunting task

It was daunting to have a house of their dreams. The ardent wish to have their dream house kept growing without fruiting. His spouse encouraged him to have a house. Nonetheless, the financial constraints were significant. Obtaining a loan was an even bigger problem. The more Vishwanath wanted to have it sooner, the more difficult it became for him. (News18)

(1) Resource crunch

The wages were not enough, and he had no other backup, so financial institutions would refuse to grant loans. High interest rates and meagre loan amounts were big impediments. He was incapable of depositing even the booking amount.

(2) Registration

After great strife, he ultimately managed to arrange money for a decent small house in a private agency. Vishwanath was happy that he registered for a home and had deposited the first booking amount. The woes were not over. He started getting reminder letters to deposit the hefty sum as instalments. He became restless. The company threatened him. They warned him that his first deposit would be fortified if he didn’t deposit the instalments in the stipulated time.

(3) Loan application rejected

Vishwanath tried to explore the possibility of an official loan. He applied for it, but here, another, more intimidating process was waiting to increase his worry. Lost in the official labyrinth and his lone application rejected on frivolous grounds. Furious Vishwanath could do nothing. He felt caught between the devil and the deep sea.  While on the one hand, the agency was bullying him, his lone application rejected on the other.

(4) Fresh application

Seeing no respite, Vishwanath decided to make yet another effort. He tried to persuade the lower staff to move his application afresh. He met superior officers and pleaded his case. Ultimately, after the acceptance of his plea, he submitted a fresh application. His case was put up to the management board for its perusal and approval. Taking an exception, the board passed the proposal. After the chairman’s approval, the loan sanctioned. This, nevertheless, didn’t end his worries. By the time the loan amount disbursed, the housing agency gave him a final notice and cancelled his application.

(5) Refund requested

After the cancellation of his application, he requested the agency to refund his first payment. The amount was significant for him. Accepting his plea, the agency refunded his amount sans interest. At the end of the whole episode, he was left without any conclusive result. He came back to square one.

Strife continued

His strife for a house continued. The sanctioned loan amount was insufficient. Vishwanath paid the full amount to a housing agency. Still, he had to cough up yet a handsome amount to own a house. He managed to apply afresh for a house in another agency. It took a long time to manage the instalment amount. The new agency has adopted a lenient attitude with long-tenure instalment. Despite financial tightness, he managed to deposit the instalments. Ultimately, the day came when a shabby-looking, almost dilapidated structure was registered in the couple’s name.

(1) Papers received

That evening, as he held the papers, Vishwanath felt on cloud nine. His dream was coming closer to fulfilment. He had not yet fulfilled his dream of owning a home in a natural environment surrounded by hills. Yet, he had successfully acquired a home for himself. It gave him a sense of satisfaction.

Life is a series of adjustments

Life is a series of adjustments and compromises. One has to adjust according to the situation, be it a relationship, work front or any other thing. Things are not always in human control. Sufferings are intrinsic and necessary. It is natural. Despite different minds, different thought processes and diverse opinions, life has to go on, hence adjustments, rearrangements and compromises. Plan ‘B’ is always in the offing, which is divulged after the first plan fails or fizzles out.

Finally…

Vishwanath’s journey to his dream home didn’t end after getting property papers. Money was needed to reconstruct the dilapidated structure. It is a different story. Suffice it to say that Vishwanath entered his house with his nuclear family after its reconstruction. This happened after a brief and very private devotional ceremony.
