Nature's Narrative

Telling the story of our planet

One and only entity that governs the whole universe is Nature. Some have personified Nature as Almighty who is omnipotent and omnipresent. I endearingly prefer to call Mother Nature who is caring and benevolent. She takes care of and nourishes us all.

As a member of the great family, we must respect and care for every element of Mother Nature. Felling trees causes habitat destruction, ultimately leading to a big and irrevocable destruction. It needs to be managed scientifically to keep a harmonious equilibrium.

Here comes the LiFE, which is Lifestyle for Environment.

I endeavour to create impactful, quality writing pieces to instigate the thought process. It is how I want to contribute my bit to the social and environmental cause.

Come, embark on the journey with me. You will enjoy it, I am sure.

Human beings

Acquisition of knowledge is intrinsic to the human race. After a long experimentation, Nature evolved an advanced bipedal creature with a complex brain. They later became humans (Homo sapiens), who had a chiselled body, toned muscles, two hands with palms and fingers. The important part of the hand was the thumb, which could touch the tips of the other fingers. This gave dexterity. With the brain’s logical and analytical reasoning power, the dexterity did wonders. Humans emerged as the most advanced creatures in evolutionary history.

(1) Writing: a tool

The brain supremacy gave humans the ability to think and express themselves. As they progressed upward on the evolutionary ladder, humans learned many things. Recording their thoughts was one of them. They evolved scripts and instruments to scribble thoughts. It opened a new vista for them. With this, they could record and store their thoughts for future use. Writing became a powerful tool for humans who learned to use it with precision. They wrote compelling prose, emotional poetry, historical accounts and philosophical discourse.

(2) Writing is inseparable

Writing is an essential and inseparable part of human life. Some have flair to write, while some learn it through persistent work and honing. It is not that difficult to get an answer to why one writes. Writing can involve sharing one’s life experiences with society. It can also include writing factual things as documentation. Current times offer a variety of platforms where one can write. They can also create their own websites and start sharing their thoughts.

(3) Blogging

Blogging is a convenient platform for a writer to start. Generally, it is a first-person account written informally. Writing is a means to start discussions and debates in today’s time. It allows one to connect and converse with many people, and conveys one’s thoughts on almost anything. Unlike old times, writing and publishing are not at the mercy of a publisher.

(4) Any time is the right time

Anyone can start writing at any time. Even a mediocre person can start it. To put down thoughts in ink needs a pen and paper with an ample amount of life experiences. The interactions with different people trigger the thought process that propels a pen to glide on paper. Reading gives insight and a dimension to a topic for writing. It doesn’t see the time or occasion.

Humans have qualities

Every human being is endowed with some qualities. One can’t be an expert in every sphere. Here comes the role of a writer who brings face-to-face the reality. It is rightly said that “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” The quote is popularly attributed to Albert Einstein, but it is probably apocryphal. It underscores the fact that different people have different qualities. Some are sprinters while a few are slow goers, but each one of them has qualities that make them outstanding. Superficial judging on superficial observation or hearsay is not only impractical but also imprudent.

Difficulties are intrinsic

Difficulties in life are congenital. The impediments are painful at times, but allow one to prove their grit, hard work and diligent persistence. Most creative thought comes when the stomach is empty. The difficulties are many. It can be unemployment, a dearth of money, an unsuccessful expedition, a mishap or something of this sort. Nevertheless, they give strength to fight against odds. Youths are seen struggling to get a job after their studies are over. Barring a few privileged ones, it is ubiquitous.

(1) Financial independence

Financial independence is of prime importance to do the work of one’s choice. It makes space for an individual to come out of the cocoon and spread wings. A job is the means of earning a livelihood. It is not the end. It would be imaginary to consider a particular job ultimate. Working for self-satisfaction gives a blissful feeling. Struggle is always lonely and personal. People can lend a helping hand and show the way, but one’s effort is the key. Time and things change. Accepting them and making efforts is the apt solution.

(2) Writing is preferred

There are endless options to work upon. Some like painting, while some like sculpture. Some find pleasure in social service, and some in expressing their thoughts using a pen, a camera or both. Writing is the preferred choice because it doesn’t need paraphernalia. A few perfectly woven words in a colourful tapestry of thoughts are enough. (Medium)

(3) Photography

Photography is an art form that requires a camera and a lot of imagination. With time, cameras have drastically changed. They are now sitting in every smartphone. Using them doesn’t require any specific technical knowledge. Supplementing a written work with vivid pictures adds dimension and appeal to it. Pictures tell a lot about anything. It is why it is aptly said, A picture is worth a thousand words. Using one’s own pictures adds more substance because it was taken something in mind and has a story. The story, amalgamated with text, can create stunning effects.

(3.1) Photography is enjoyable

Photography also gives immense pleasure and self-satisfaction. Watching a natural object, human figure, curves and ridges with falling sunrays and photographing them with a purpose is absorbing. It allows a thorough appreciation of the quality of light. The light turns an abstract-looking object into a vivid form. It is like magic. People like photography for its fun quotient, but for some, it is way ahead of this. Besides satiating artistic urge, it can be capitalised for a regular income.

(3.2) Storytelling with camera

Storytelling with a camera is a thrilling experience. Watching a natural occurrence, a sunset, for example, is a captivating experience. Thoughts come to mind while watching the beauty of the setting sun. A picture story communicates well the emotion and feeling of the scene. A camera is an important gadget. Modern digital cameras have replaced manually operated SLR film cameras. Picture taking is neither a complex activity nor an expensive job now. Digital gadgets have eased things and life.

Writing helps

Writing helps overcome emotional outbursts and negativity. It wards off many unwanted things from around. Lone walking can help in easing out. Conversing with various elements of Nature helps in understanding its intricacies. The freshening sight of swinging branchies of trees, floral heads with hovering insects and kaleidoscopes of butterflies are invigorating. It gives enough food for thought that helps in writing.

Epilogue

Nature gives bounties. Mindless damage to the environment and Nature are proving harmful. Ruthless tree felling, excessive milking of groundwater, and unscientific mining activities are but a few things that need urgent attention. ongoing. These cause widespread environmental degradation, habitat destruction and soil erosion. It adversely affects humanity. The message is loud and clear. Awareness is possible through writing and photography. It is appropriately said that the pen is mightier than the sword.
